CQTs participation in the Rock Climbing Round Table with Parks Victoria

ClimbingQTs is proud to represent a diverse and inclusive group of climbers, outdoor enthusiasts, adventurers and vertically inclined folk identifying as part of and allies to the LGBTQ+ community.

We became an incorporated not-for-profit organisation in November 2018 and are managed by a group of volunteers who we hope reflect our community accurately. We are not currently associated with any other club or organisation however we do participate in the Rock climbing Round table with Parks Victoria.

Our role is to represent the interests of our club members and not necessarily represent the broader climbing community.

Those who represent our club at the Round table and many of our members are keen outdoor climbers who would like to be able to climb in as much of Gariwerd / Grampians as is appropriate (that is, where climbing can be conducted in an environmentally sustainable manner, and is sensitive to Cultural Heritage concerns). When things are outside of our expertise at the round table, we can tap into the knowledge of our broad membership base and consult with other members of the climbing community as required.

Whether or not our members have years of experience under their harness, or have just started climbing in the last few months, we have the capacity to appreciate Gariwerd land and the positive effects of participating in nature based activities and will continue to engage in conversations regarding access in the hopes that our members will be able to benefit from a connection with the outdoors.

That said, ensuring that protection of Aboriginal Heritage and environmental sustainability is a priority. We believe that being able to climb and explore what is and will always be Aboriginal land is a privilege and not a right and this guides our opinion and decisions.

If anyone would like to discuss anything regarding the above statement any further, please contact us directly via the www.climbingqts.com website.
